Piedmont Athens Regional Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Intern
From August 2016 to May 2017, I interned at Piedmont Athens Regional as a cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation clinical exercise physiology intern. Through the internship, I became proficient in taking patient spO2, blood pressure and heart rate manually before, during and after exercise. During all classes, phase II and III, I assist patients with aerobic exercises (e.g. NU-step, bike, treadmill, elliptical), resistance exercises - targeting all major muscle groups (e.g. resistance band and free weights) and flexibility.
A patient education bulletin inspired by National Nutrition Month. The bulletin provides patient's with the "how to's" of choosing heart healthy foods, including how to choose a 5-star cereal. The board also provides patient's with heart healthy food spots and areas that promote physical activity within the Athens community. Methods of reducing salt intake with the substitution for specific herbs & spices, a heart healthy meatloaf and black-eyed pea recipe from the American Heart Association website, and in-season produce brochures and handouts are available to patients at the bottom of the bulletin.
During the internship, I created a 6 minute-walk-test (6MWT) policy for Piedmont Athens Regional in monitoring current and assessing graduating cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients.
